Hi, I'm fairly new to this. So I hope iv posted in the correct forum. So here goes. I'm a female aged 42. I had a hysterectomy at the age of 29, and have been on HRT from the age of 29. For the last year or more I have been experiencing terrible pain and discomfort to the underneath of my boob. It feels like it is behind the nipple, underneath and to the left of breast. It has also for the last week been causing pain under my left arm also. The pain and discomfort has been waking me up of a night. It almost feels as though the inside of my breast is sticking to the inside. Also feels swollen at times. Can't bare to be touched as any contact thouroughly hurts. I am at present waiting for a mammogram appointment since last week. Any advice would put my mind at ease. Thank you. Sue
Hello Sue and welcome to healthypages Your post has been moved to our Women's Health forum as being more appropriate for its content. Best wishes Moonfairy HPmods
Have you had a check up with your GP or has he/she simply referred you for mammography? If you haven't seen your GP, please make an appointment very soon - just to put your mind at rest, if nothing else. We cannot give advice on the Forum - just make recommendations - and mine is 'see your GP', or, if you are anxious about how you are feeling, call your local hospital Breast Care Nurse - you don't have to be an existing patient to simply talk to them.
Hi Sue Could be a cyst. Having had one myself I'd demand a scan rather than have a mammogram where the breast tissue is squashed between metal plates to get it as thin as possible! I take strong painkillers before I have a mammogram. The scan is like a baby scan and won't hurt. It could be inflamed breast tissue - mastitis - but that all should be sorted by the specialist. There are nurtitional strategies that can be helpful, but that would be best when you have a diagnosis, but it wouldn't hurt to have fish oil (x 3/day) and some starflower or evening primrose oil (essential omega oils) to help reduce inflammation, vitamin C 500-1000mg 2-3x/day, and a quality multivit from a healthfood shop for the time being. Hope it gets sorted soon.
Hi Caroline & Jabba, Thank you so much for your advice, most appreciated -) I had a mammogram some 2 years ago due to a suspected lump in my right arm pit. Fortunately all was well. The discomfort and pain is in my left breast and arm pit began over a year ago I did think that mayb it was hormonal, but now hav doubts due to it being in just one breast and being constant. I have tried different bra's and none at all. Also evening primrose. But nothing helps. Surely it's not right after such a long time. At least 16 months constantly. I had seen my GP last week who examined me and has requested a mammogram. As yet I have not received a date yet. I know that it's probably nothink to worry about but you can't help thinking all sorts. Once again thank you for your support. Sue x

You could try manual lymphatic drainage (www.mlduk.org.uk for Therapists) - or check YouTube for self massage of breast tissue. It can help relieve tension in the breast tissue.
