    Hello!

I'm about to take my practical massage exam & I'm getting more & more nervous. Especially now I know the examiner will be asking questions during the actual exam!
Can anyone give me examples as I'm getting a tad freaked & some things I've read have even said you can be asked up to three questions..?

    Thank you in advance :)

    Hi and welcome.
It's so long since I did ITEC I can't remember any questions but someone who qualified more recently may be able to help. Alternatively your tutor should be able to give you some examples of questions which may be asked....
    Best of luck!

    hello Shellbelle

It's been about 7 years since I did my massage exam; however I do remember feeling pretty darn scared myself. I think I was asked to name the muscles that I was working over (front thigh at the time), what movements I was using (effleurage etc) and why. I can't remember if there was another question. Just don't forget to keep massaging whilst talking (not easy if you're like me and talk with your hands!!!). Jinx is right, your teacher should give you ideas and also run a mock practical or 2 to give you an idea of what it is like.

    Good luck! :)

I was asked what I'd found out about my client during the consultation - which kind of threw me a bit, since I was expecting to be asked about what I was doing at the time! And Holistic77 is dead right. I totally forgot where I was and had to effleurage for a while until the examiner went away!

The person one side of me was asked which muscles they were working at that time. The person the other side was asked about local contraindications.

But I agree with Jinx, your tutor should give you some idea of what to expect. During my course, whenever we did a practical the tutor would ask questions as we worked to get us used to the exam format. And we had a mock exam with her two weeks before the real thing.

    Good luck!

    Thanks everyone,

Feeling a little bit more at ease now. Exams of any kind never make me feel good but as long as I'm prepared & know what to expect.

    Thanks again!!

    Hi there,

I'm not sure if you have already done your exam by now but I'm sure this information will be helpful to others regardless.

I have recently completed my ITEC Holistic Massage (with distinction! woop! still celebrating!) and found this info from the ITEC website invaluable when preparing for the practical:

    http://www.itecworld.co.uk/Syllabus/Unit Documents/Holistic Massage Marking Criteria.pdf

All the questions the examiner asked me and the others on the exam day were ones listed here so I don't think they vary. Just know the main muscles you'll be working over at various points in your routine and the benefits and contraindications to effleurage/petrissage/percussion etc and you should be fine. They only ask a couple of questions per candidate but our examiner did keep prompting for more info. One person was asked how they would deal with a client who was very nervous and they were asked to elaborate on their answer until the examiner felt she had enough info I guess.
By the time you are preparing for your exam you will have completed all your case studies and therefore have experience with many clients, have learned your a and p and finished your assignments you will be prepared for any questions you may be asked.

    I hope this helps!

HolisticHolly8, I put stuff about laundry services, accountant for help setting up the business etc. Just have a think about what services you might require.

    Thanks for your help!
Do we need to discuss it in a paragraph or bullet point the additional services?
