Can someone tell me if this is correct regarding remedy potency

Using any remedy in Mother Tincture or
    > material potencies below 4x requires caution. As these are strictly
    > herbal in nature rather than homeopathic they can have adverse reactions
    > and interactions with other medication in some cases

Are they saying that any homeopathic remedy below 4x isn't a homeopathic remedy at all but a herbal remedy - that's what I'm understanding. I saw 1x as a potency - so is that a herbal or homeopathic remedy and is it dangerous to take. I would have thought that anything from 6x to 1x would be safe - just going on the combination remedies/cell salts as these always seem to be in 6x potency.

Can someone explain this to me please?
    Thanks

As a pharmacist who has done some homeopathic training it means the concentrations of active ingredients in the mother tincture in early dilutions are such that they will exert a direct effect. i.e. Ipecac is used to induce vomiting so there is risk the mother tincture will do just that.

Therefore they are not safe to use homeopathically. ALL ingested medicines be they homeopathic, allopathic or herbal go through a process to make them safe to use for the desired effect. At 4x the process has not yet been completed.

My very very basic training taught me never to use anything than a 6x. with 6c being the normal.

I think the difference comes from the avogadros constant when homeopathic remedies are made by dilution. I haven't checked the figures but this statement would seem to suggest that anything less than 4x can still contain molecules of the original substance, whereas anything over that, theoretically, will not statistically contain any of the original substance, which is where you get into the homeopathic principle of the remedy containing the energetic signature of the substance rather than the molecular.

So taking a 1x, or a 3x remedy could make you ill or suffer bad effects - is that what I'm getting.

But 6x, 6c would be safer to take.

    Hi Janet,
Homeopathic remedies are diluted and prepared such that the material substances in them are undetectable by normal laboratory testing, hence we think they work on an energetic basis. You will most often see them in dilutions from 6c up to 10M.
The same substances can be used in a material sense but they aren't the same as homeopathic remedies. Their 'numbers' are usually below 6c.denoting that they are less diluted, and it may possibly be applicable for a natural health practitioner to use them much as they would a herbal preparation.
I'd suggest always seeking advice before using these- or come to that, any homeopathic remedy also, other than those purchased over the counter for the short term.If you've been prescibed them, you might like to ask the reasoning behind thatso that you can understand what to expect. I just read an article where someone had prescribed a 1x remedy and as I'd not heard of a potency that low - wondered what it was all about and wanted to know if they were safe and classed as a homeopathic remedy or it was classed as a herbal. And someone said to take with caution.

There is an American Company - you may know the one that sells remedies etc. and their products come with all sorts of weird potencies that I've never come across before and a lot of them are combinations of a few different remedies. I often wonder if you take these - if you aggravated you could be in some serious bother as you'd not know what it was and also are they safe when they include so many in one tablet!

Well, Janet, you raise some interesting points and I think the jury's out really. I can't speak for the company and I can only say that in my view, the best way to take any health product, is with professional advice, not only from a possible safety angle but also to get the best results. Hi Hom
I quite agree but I do often wonder about all these products out there if I'm honest.

Do people really take them and do they help, do they cause problems - there's some wild and wonderful products out there and perhaps it's not now but in the future that the side effects really come to fruition (Thalidimide drug comes to mind - not me but a family member who had problems that manifested 20 years or more down the line due to taking the drug - and yes - she did have a thalidimide child) - but not just homeopathic remedies etc. but all supplements - the body building ones, the weight loss ones - it's scary and it's a minefield.

Personal opinion... you're safer taking natural/homeopathic remedies from a qualified person in those fields, than you are taking pharmaceuticals prescribed by a doctor who isn't qualified in the manufacter of those drugs, but who instead relies on the pharma companies telling him/her what they're good for... think about it... GP knows about human bodies and conditions... the drugs they prescribe are made by chemists who only focus on small areas of biology. Conversely homeopaths and herbalists look at the whole body and understand what is good from nature to work for it.

Yes wherever possible these days I go down a homeopathic route/herbal - more homeopathic if I'm honest than go to my Dr for medication.

My only issue at the moment is the cream I got for the lichen sclerosus which was a steroid cream which I don't want to use so looking for something more natural. Do not want steroid going into my body however small the dose.

I've gone about 4/5 years now without any drugs from the Dr going into my body so that for me is a success. OK I know sometimes you may have to take allopathic meds but if I can avoid, I will! Have seen some of the damage they do i.e. antidepressants for a start - cures one problem but gives you 3 more to contend with!
