I want to incorporate more alkaline foods since I am too acidic -- eat way too much sugar, dairy and wheat. How long before I will see positive effects on my health and what would they be? I bought some litmus paper to test my saliva and urine.

begin the day with lemon juice in a glass of water.

I asked Sarah Lantry at http://WWW.attitudetofood.com how did that work.

She agreed that it is acidic outside the body, yet helps alkalise the body once we drink it.

Lots of green veggies also help with the alkilising process

I've been trying to have daily a glass of water with a spoonful of raw, unfiltered organic apple cider vinegar and that works as well as lemon. Surprisingly, it doesn't taste bitter to me, just like unsweetened refreshing apple juice, so I don't mind it at all. I bought some test strips to pee on and it's very enlightening to see how what I eat during the day changes my urine to acidic or alkaline.

There are lots of websites with lists of acid and alkaline foods. I printed one out for my fridge. You are safe eating most fruits and veg, although there are exceptions. Dairy, grains and protein tend to be acidic, as well as some nuts but not all, but when I eat them with vegetables, I still get neutral or slightly alkaline urine, so that's fine.

Sarah recommended the pH Miracle by Robert Young.

I got it out of the library, then found it in a charity shop so got my own copy

well worth it as a reference book, and it has some recipes in it too
